Introduction

This article is about Internet Relay Chat (IRC), what it is and why it is very useful. IRC is a application layer protocol developed by Jarkko Oikarinen in August 1988, that facilitiates communication in the form of text and works on a client/server networking model. Therefore a IRC client is needed for individuals to connect the IRC servers, they are usually used for group communication but they can also be used for private messages and data transfer. Therefore they can allow individuals to be helped on various subjects. Also there are many channels are available on various servers, such as Freenode or OFTC.
